Title : Travel to Rajasthan: Three Weeks of Discovery of India
Introduction
A few years ago, my family and I had the chance to spend three weeks in Rajasthan, an incredible region in Northern India, with its colors, majestic palaces and cultural heritage. Our journey began in New Delhi and took us to the bustling lanes of Jodhpur, the splendors of Agra, and beyond. Beyond the landscapes and sites, we delved into the diversity of Indian culture, notably discovering the traditions of different castes and the magnificent blue houses of Jodhpur.
Arrival in New Delhi: First Meeting with India
As soon as we arrived in New Delhi, we were struck by the boundless energy of this city. Between the tuk-tuks, the markets and the temples, New Delhi offered us a first glimpse of Indian daily life, with its contrasts and its bustle. We explored the Chandni Chowk area, a labyrinth of bustling alleyways, perfect for an introduction to local flavors and colors.
The Taj Mahal in Agra: A Breathtaking Wonder
Impossible to go to India without seeing the famous Taj Mahal. In Agra, the beauty of this iconic monument, with its white marble and architectural details, was breathtaking. We visited the mausoleum at sunrise, which gave the whole thing a golden glow. As a lover of travel and art, this visit was one of the highlights of our stay.
Discovery of Caste Systems and Traditions
This trip also allowed us to better understand Indian traditions, particularly the caste systems which still shape many aspects of society. By talking with residents, we discovered how these social structures influence family and professional dynamics. It was an enriching and fascinating experience to learn about such an ancient and complex culture.
Jodhpur: The Blue City
Jodhpur, nicknamed the “Blue City,” was an essential stop on our trip. Strolling through its streets, we admired the blue-painted houses, which seem to shine under the Indian sun. This symbolic color is linked to Brahmins, the highest caste, but today many houses are painted blue for aesthetic and practical reasons, as this color helps keep homes cool.
Discovering the Thar Desert and the Wonders of Rajasthan
Our adventure in Rajasthan would not be complete without an immersion in the Thar Desert, a vast expanse of golden sand. We had the magical experience of a camel ride at sunset, with dunes as far as the eye could see. We also crossed a nomadic village, with hundreds of camels.
We visited the Jain Temple of Ranakpur, an architectural gem hidden in the Aravalli Mountains. This temple is famous for its thousands of intricately carved pillars, each unique, and for the incredible serenity that reigns within its paths. This visit was a marked contrast to the tumult of the cities.
Jaisalmer Fort, nicknamed the “Golden Fort,” proved equally impressive. This citadel which overlooks the city of Jaisalmer is inhabited and teeming with life. With its sand-colored walls blending into the desert, the fort transported us to the past, as if time had stopped there. Strolling through its narrow streets, we were able to admire the sculpted havelis and discover craft stalls.
Finally, the Nagda Mewar temple, located not far from Udaipur, amazed us with its sculptures and ancient architecture. This isolated site in a natural setting allowed us to discover complex details, which testify to the artistic richness of the period.
Each stop in these fascinating places added a new dimension to our trip to Rajasthan, offering a perfect blend of culture, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes.
A Family Trip Filled with Discoveries
While traveling as a family to Rajasthan, we were transported to another world, where each city, each landscape, and each encounter immersed us a little more in Indian traditions and culture. For those like me who follow a gluten-free diet, fortunately there are many local gluten-free options, such as rice, vegetables and lentils, which are at the heart of Indian cuisine.
Conclusion
This trip to Rajasthan was an experience rich in emotions and cultural discoveries. Whether to admire the monuments or to discover the diversity of its traditions, Rajasthan offers a total change of scenery, which enriches and broadens our horizons. We hope to one day return to India, particularly to the Kerala region, to discover another side of India and share new adventures on Gluten Evasion.
