Ingredients

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the shallots, garlic and ginger, and sauté until the shallot is translucent.
  3. Add the chili paste and fry for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the dried shrimp paste and cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes, until well incorporated and the mixture has a strong aroma.
  5. Add the gluten-free soy sauce, sugar if desired, and lime juice. Mix well, then adjust salt if necessary.
  6. Simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sambal thickens slightly.
  1. Let cool before transferring to an airtight jar. Store this condiment in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks and use it to add a spicy touch to your favorite dishes!

Note

You can prepare this sambal with fresh, chopped shrimp.
