Tahitian-style raw fish, also called “ia ota” in French Polynesia, is a very well-known dish from this Pacific region. It's a refreshing blend of marinated raw fish, reminiscent of Latin American ceviches, but with a unique twist thanks to coconut milk. Ideal for lovers of fresh fish and exotic flavors!
Ingredients
Preparation
-
Preparing the fish: Cut the fish into small cubes of about 1 cm on each side. Place them in a bowl and sprinkle generously with lime juice to “cook” them. Leave to marinate for 10 to 20 minutes, until the fish becomes opaque.
-
Preparation of the vegetables: While the fish marinates, finely slice the red onion, cut the tomatoes into small cubes, and slice the cucumber into thin rounds. If using a carrot, grate it finely.
-
Assembly: Drain the fish to remove excess lemon juice. Add the prepared vegetables to the bowl of fish. Then pour the coconut milk over everything and mix gently.
-
Seasoning: Salt, pepper, and adjust the tastes according to your preferences. You can also add fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley for a finishing touch.
-
Service: Serve immediately, chilled. This dish can be accompanied by rice or eaten as is as a starter.
