  1. Prepare the pears: Carefully peel the pears, leaving the stem intact for a nice presentation. If desired, remove the core from the base using a knife or a melon baller.
  2. Prepare the flavored syrup: In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil with the ginger slices, sugar (or honey), cinnamon stick and lemon zest.
  3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes to release the aromas.
  4. Brew the green tea: Remove the pan from the heat and add the tea bags or loose leaf tea. Let it steep for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags or strain the tea leaves.
  5. Poach the pears: Return the pan to low heat. Add the pears to the liquid and let them poach for 15 to 20 minutes, gently turning them halfway through cooking so they cook evenly. The pears should be tender but still hold their shape. Check with the tip of a knife.
  6. To serve: Carefully remove the pears and arrange them on individual plates or a serving platter. If the syrup is too thin, reduce it slightly, then drizzle it over the pears. Sprinkle with slivered almonds and sesame seeds.
