The Toffee Apples , or Caramel Apples, are an essential treat for Guy Fawkes Night. Crispy and sweet, they are perfect for reheating fresh autumn evenings. They look like love apples but without coloring: the cute caramel coating will delight young and old.

Ingredients

6 medium apples
400 g of sugar
1 Tbsp of white vinegar
100 ml of water
2 tablespoons of golden syrup (sugar syrup popular in England, can be replaced with maple syrup)
50 g chopped walnuts (to decorate)

Preparation

Wash and dry the apples well. Poke them with wooden sticks so you can hold them easily.

In a saucepan, mix the sugar, vinegar, water and syrup. Heat over medium heat until the mixture reaches 150°C (check with a sugar thermometer).

Once ready, dip each apple into the caramel, turning to coat.

Place the apples on parchment paper, add crushed walnuts to half of the apples and let the caramel harden before eating.
