Meghl of a child or to mark Christmas. This deliciously spicy dessert made from ground rice is naturally gluten-free and beautifully reflects the festive flavors of the Middle East with the use of cinnamon, anise and caraway. Meghli is generally decorated with nuts and dried fruits for a perfect contrast between sweetness and crunch. Easy to make, it will bring a touch of exoticism and conviviality to your festive table.
Preparation of the meghli: In a large saucepan, mix the rice flour, sugar, cinnamon, caraway and anise. Add the water gradually while mixing with a whisk to avoid lumps. Place the pan over medium heat and stir constantly using a wooden spoon. The mixture will thicken as it cooks. Once the consistency becomes smooth and creamy (similar to thick custard), remove from heat. This usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Pour and let cool: Pour the meghli into individual bowls or a large serving dish. Smooth the surface with a spatula.
Garnish and serve: Just before serving, generously decorate the meghli with crushed walnuts, almonds, pistachios, pine nuts and grated coconut.
